Depth Measurement Bias in Pulsed Airborne Laser Hydrography Induced by Chromatic Dispersion

چکیده
In contrast to topographic laser scanning, hydrography must take into account the presence of two media. A pulsed beam, which enters water from air at an oblique angle, is refracted air-water boundary in direction plumb line. This change described by Snellius' law caused a slower speed light wave water, i.e., phase velocity. Light scattering turbidity gives rise further deviations straight path. Together, and turbidity-induced path extension cause longer pulse round trip time than air. For accurate measurement, it important correct this propagation extension. It common practice assume velocity as for pulses water. dispersive medium, however, only approximation pulse. media with chromatic dispersion, propagate different velocity, group using instead reduces range dependent bias depth measurement wavelength 532 nm more 1.5%. We present easy perform experiment, shows that differs so much difference should be taken account. discuss use explain examples literature.

Dispersion-mode pulsed laser.
A new self-consistency condition in pulsed lasers with strong intracavity dispersion imposes dispersion modes with specific cavity-length dependent pulse rates, utilizing pulse-train self-imaging properties of a temporal Talbot effect. We give an experimental demonstration of such a laser operation, using a long fiber cavity. We also demonstrate temporal Talbot imaging of a train of short pulse...
متن کامل1 Obstruction Detection and Data Decimation for Airborne Laser Hydrography
Airborne lidar technology is attractive for hydrographic surveying because of its high rate of area coverage coupled with high spatial data density, rapid-response and reconnaissance capabilities, and cost effectiveness. The National Ocean Service (NOS) has been involved in the design, implementation, and testing of such systems in conjunction with NASA, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Army Corps o...
متن کاملLaser Airborne Depth Sounder (lads):
LADS (Laser Airborne Depth Sounding) is a new laser bathymetric survey tool that has applicability in clear coastal (Case II) waters down to -70 m depth. The new sounding technique features rapid acquisition of large high-quality data sets via variable swath widths that are independent of water depth. This advanced airborne laser bathymetric (ALB) system was deployed along the southeast Florida...
متن کاملThermoelastic wave induced by pulsed laser heating
In this work, a generalized solution for the thermoelastic plane wave in a semi-infinite solid induced by pulsed laser heating is developed. The solution takes into account the non-Fourier effect in heat conduction and the coupling effect between temperature and strain rate, which play significant roles in ultrashort pulsed laser heating. Based on this solution, calculations are conducted to st...
